Since the initial deployment which took place in 2004, we have made it our policy to be transparent in all our dealings with the teachers as well as with PGCPS. No hidden costs and no unexplained or unnecessary fees. Our placement and post deployment practices sought to ensure that the otherwise tumultuous transition of all our teachers into their new lives and jobs would be as smooth as possible. To the best of our abilities, we made certain that all our teachers would hit the ground running and could, from day one, concentrate on starting a successful teaching career in the US.
The arrangement had been working perfectly for all. That is, until the inevitable cuts to PGCPS’ budget brought about by the US Recession and, of course, DOL’s announcement of its initial findings last April. On our own volition, we went to PG County shortly thereafter to meet with our teachers and to find out how we can help. Finally, last Friday, the DOL’s final determination came.
To our dear Arrowhead teachers, be assured that we are with you in your cause. We shall be in touch with the leaders of various groups to ascertain how we can effectively provide assistance in these trying times. Consider this as a genuine expression of our concern and fidelity to you.
We call upon other agencies that deployed teachers who are now employed with PGCPS and are affected by the DOL decision. Let us join hands in support of our teachers.
Indeed, these are times of extreme confusion. The DOL decision will not only impact on our teachers but, eventually, on all foreign teachers as well in the US. Inputs from all sides are coming in droves. It is our earnest hope that sobriety will prevail and whatever steps will be taken will be fair to all.
